Why sun protection matters more for kids

Sunglasses aren’t just cute accessories. New Zealand has some of the highest UV levels in the world — and little eyes are especially vulnerable. Kids’ eyes let in more UV light than adult eyes, which means protection early on really matters.

Why kids need extra protection

• Their lenses are clearer → more UV reaches the retina
• They spend more time outdoors
• Sun damage builds over a lifetime

And while hats and sunscreen are essential, eyes often get forgotten.

What to look for in kids’ sunnies:

✔ UV400 protection
✔ Polarised lenses (reduce glare)
✔ Comfortable, flexible frames
✔ A fit kids actually want to wear
